IPODs and other MP3 players, most the size of a credit card, have created the opportunity to listen to thousands of songs at any place and any time. This innovative way to buy, download, and listen to music has revolutionized the music industry. Recently, however, it has begun to offer a new opportunity for educators to reach students. Teachers are creating curriculum and sending it directly to the students' mp3 players. Students can then listen to homework assignments, lectures, or notes at any time and any place.
Podcasting, a term combining the words IPOD and Broadcasting, refers to a specific way for someone to create content and then to deliver that content as a broadcast. Others subscribe to the broadcast and receive new content when it is created.
Course Objectives
In this course, we will cover everything (or almost everything) there is to know about Podcasting and how it can be used in education. Participants will learn about MP3s and Podcasts, including how to subscribe to their favorite broadcasters. Next, we will address how to create content and how to stream that content into a Podcast. Finally, we will talk about how to get students subscribed to teacher (and other Podcasts). Throughout this course, we will be addressing the pedagogical strategies associated with the use of Podcasts.
